We had 10 swimmers and nice conditions today. It was sunny and calm with clear water (for the Central Coast) and a water temperature over at the Port of 59 degrees. Niel, Rick, Stephanie, Marcus and Liz swam half of the buoy line. Tom and Jim did a triangle, adjusted because of the presence of a high speed watercraft. Sylvia and Heidi swam the buoy line and Peter did his own swim.

It was a breezy summer day at Avila. A little on the cooler side, but tepid weather did nothing to deter the construction of the weekend shantytown along the water line.
Swimming today was Sylvia and Tom. Both did some form of the bouy line at their own pace. The water was about 55-56 in most spots with it dipping down to 43 in the crazy cold water uprising located under and next to the pier on the west side. There was bit of a chop, but all in all it was a good day for swimming.

It was cool with heavy overcast at Avila Beach this morning. There was no wind and an occasional 3' wave. The lifeguards recorded a water temperature of 58 degrees.
Swimming today were Duke, Amy, Marcus, Stephanie, Chris (visiting from Ventura) Jim, John Hampsey and Peter Kelley. Niel and Rick were on the beach, Sylvia went wading. The group did the triangle clockwise. Stephanie and Chris came in at the halfway point along the length of the pier. Duke got a total distance of 1 mile. Everybody said that the water close to the shore felt colder than 58 and that it was much warmer out at the end of the pier.
I do not know how big a turnout we'll have next weekend. I'll not be swimming, some people will be at the SLO Tri and others are away at other races. Stephanie wants to swim, anybody coming to keep her company?
Jim is interested in doing a relay swim this summer; Tahoe, a channel swim, Maui, suggestions... Is anybody interested in helping make a 6 for a relay?

Swimming today were Stephanie, Amy, John, Duke and Tom. Rick and Niel were on the beach. Everybody swam some variation of the buoy line. The air temperature was about 80 with no wind and the water was 60 degrees, clear with small waves. I gave Tom my camera. He took a lot more pictures than I do because he is usually the first one to finish a leg and I'm off the back, so, today's blog is a story in photos.

I'm still on the beach so there's just a written report today.
Avila was crowded and gray, with thick overcast skies that didn't clear until after noon. There was no wind, the water was about 57 and swimming conditions were very good.
Tom, Stephanie, Jon and Peter were joined by visiting swimmers Brenden, Dillon, Pete, Tracy, Jeff and Haley. A few people swam up and back along the left half of the buoy line while the rest did triangle, going from the east end of the buoys to the end of the Avila Pier to the west end of the buoys at the creek and back along the buoy line to the pier.
There will be a swim tomorrow morning at 9. The route and distance to be determined by those who show up. It is a nice chance to start your day off in the water before the beer and pie.
