Niel, Graig, Teresa and Grace swam this morning. The conditions were the usual menu for early morning in late summer; overcast skies, flat seas, some red tide in the water, seals and seabirds around looking for a meal and a water temperature of 15°C/59°F.
With the lack of sun the water swam like it was 57° or 58°.
We swam down the buoy line to the last buoy at the creek, over to the second crossbars on the Cal Poly Pier, to the end of the CP Pier, to the end of the Avila Pier, on to the 4th and last buoy on the east side of the Avila Pier and back along the buoy line to our starting point for just under 2 miles.

At this point there is enough sun to show the red brown color
that the plankton bloom gives the water.

On the leg between the ends of the CP and Avila piers we got swarmed by seabirds. I don't know if they thought that were were seals stirring up a bait ball for them.
I got this picture as I was getting out of birds grouping up over some bait fish out beyond the buoy line on the left side of the Avila Pier.
All of the sea animals are here at this time of the year: bait fish, bigger fish, seals, dolphins, humpback whales and white sharks, all both looking for lunch and being lunch.

I'm going to swim at 9 on Saturday and Sunday and skip swimming on the holiday.
