What a day! We had Hillary, Niel, Justin, Sue, Sue's sister and Sue's son Archie in the water.
Sue and Justin and Hillary and Niel buddied up based on speed and did two similar swims.
It was 70°+ at 11 and rising to quite warm after the swim. It was the first time in a while that I had to wear sandals because the sand was too hot for bare feet. There were no clouds or fog and a slight wind with a small swell out of the SE.  The water was 61° and 62°west of the Cal Poly Pier. The plan was to swim left along the buoy line to the end, around the reef buoy and to the end of the CPP, in to the third crossbars and to double back for about 4,000M.Justin and Sue are much faster than Hillary and I and when we arrived at the end of the CPP we didn't see them anywhere so we decided to have a bit of an adventure and go further west over to the pleasure boat mooring area. It turns out that Sue and Justin had gone in along the CPP to the second crossbars and doubled back. The didn't find us anywhere along the pier so they swam the planned route back.

Today saw the return of Hillary's Official Avila Beach Party Boat complete with GoPro, shark and flamingo hula dancers, swim flags and Ducky, who has a water temperature thermometer in his/her back.

Sue and her sister getting in.
Our water was too cold for Sue's sister so she stayed close to shore.

Justin getting in.

Sue, Archie and Hillary and her flotilla at the 4th buoy.

From the end of the CPP Hillary and I decided to swim over to this long abandoned boat. Hillary said that years ago the Harbor District gave the boat to someone who promised to move it but that hasn't happened.

Hillary at the stern of the Heavy Mettle.
The boat is either aluminum or steel so I guess the pun is intended.

Me at the same spot. An easy operator error resulted in a video instead of a photo.

Hillary and Sue back at out starting point.

Tom was out there earlier in the morning and had a great swim.

There were a lot of watercraft out there today; kayaks, SUP's, pleasure boats, the harbor patrol, and a personal watercraft with two Cal Fire lifeguards aboard ripping up the waves and running up on the beach in front of the east lifeguard tower. I've no idea what was so important that they brought a boat through the swim zone.

After today I feel like resting up a bit before swimming on Tuesday morning at 7.
