Avila Beach was a nice place to be today. It was 57 - 60 degrees, sunny, cloudless, with an onshore breeze and 1 to 3 foot surf. It was windy and cool on the beach unless you were up against the seawall (where I sit) where there is much less wind and you get the sun reflecting off of the seawall. There was as line of clouds on the horizon.
I swam by myself. Conditions were much like yesterday except the water was up to 50 to 51 degrees, just enough warmer to notice. Outside the surf zone the water was a nice, clean green. 45 minutes after I had gotten in that line of clouds that had been on the horizon had moved in, the sun was gone and everybody on the beach was covering up.
I'm two swims into getting my stroke and cold water mojo back. Today felt good and a mile was enough. After another swim or two I'll be comfortable doing another half hour at these temperatures. I plan on swimming on Tuesday at 7. Rain is predicted to begin on Wednesday and continue into Friday so my Thursday and the weekend's swims will depend on how much and when the rain occurs.
